The lines of separation between good and evil in our society are now drawn more clearly than ever. Evil is definitely raising it’s ugly head and gleefully having a heyday. As we observe the chaos of our times, one phrase keeps coming to my mind: “There is no future in that.”

Meanwhile, I’ve been reading and re-reading Psalm 37, which speaks to the same theme– those who have a future, and those who do not.

God has made His world to work by certain unchangeable principles. He tells us who will have the future. Although we find ourselves living in a time that is not for the faint of heart, take courage and take comfort from this Psalm, which presents a clear contrast between the good and the evil.

Repeatedly mentioned in this Psalm is the phrase “inherit the land.” This phrase strongly implies a future.

“Those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land.” (v. 9)

“But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace.” (v. 11)

“For those blessed by the LORD shall inherit the land.” (v. 22)

“The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell upon it forever.” (v. 29)

“Wait for the LORD and keep His way, and He will exalt you to inherit the land.” (v. 34)

I know that I want these promised blessings for myself and my children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren… don’t you? There IS a future for the children of God, and it’s glorious. We must start toward that future today, but how?

We can start by looking at the instructions given to us in this same Psalm:

•fret not because of evildoers
•trust in the Lord
•do good
•dwell in the land
•befriend faithfulness
•delight in the Lord
•commit your way to the Lord
•trust in Him
•be still before the Lord
•wait patiently for Him
•fret not
…. and more ….

This Psalm shows us a way of living, day after day.

In contrast, consider the future of the wicked. This Psalm says they will (just to name a few):

•soon fade like grass
•wither like the green herb
•be cut off
•be no more
•not be in his place
•vanish away like smoke
•be altogether destroyed

These phrases imply… no future at all. In fact, verse 38 says “the future of the wicked will be cut off.”

In a very practical sense, those who abort their babies have no future. Those who attempt to make women out of men, and vice versa, are going to have a hard time perpetrating their cause for generations to come. Those who desperately attempt to create their own ‘truths,’ and build their own ‘reality’ (purely on thin air) will find those ‘truths’ vanishing away like a puff of smoke, as this Psalm says. Real truth endures and can never be silenced or canceled or turned off. The reality of God’s world and His truth will inevitably push back against their fantasies, and it will not be pretty.

The belligerent, the loud, the proud should beware: Self-Destruct Mode is a real thing.

Rest in Him dear ones (leave all the how/when/where questions with Him) and remember, there is a future. He has promised, and He will not fail. ♥︎
