After reading my last blog post, about working alongside your children, Steve said, “There’s a spiritual lesson in that.”

Here’s the truth he shared. We have One who comes alongside us, too. As followers of Christ, we’ve all been given jobs to do, many of which seem beyond our abilities. Our Master hasn’t left us alone to figure it all out ourselves. He’s given us a Helper. Although we face many difficult tasks, He works alongside us, guiding and gently correcting each step of the way. He equips us to do the job the lies before us. He gives us joy along the journey.

Jesus said, “And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter [Helper], that He may abide with you forever; even the Spirit of truth;… ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you and shall be in you.” (John 14:16-17)

The Greek word for “Comforter” literally means “a helper, called to one’s side, strengthener, one called alongside to help.” Further thoughts on the amazing reality of the Holy Spirit at work in the lives of believers can be found here.*

He gives us love to share even when we don’t feel like being loving. He helps us to be wise when we know we lack wisdom on our own. He fills us with kindness and concern for others, when naturally we are full of selfishness. He gives us direction when we don’t know where to turn. He gives us peace even when our world is turned upside down.

Let’s seek Him today for strength in whatever difficult task is at hand. Let the Helper come alongside you, just as you come alongside your children.♥
